It's a good time to pray for terrorist victims!

Since the Board of Education will no longer be providing video-taping for cablecast (effective July, 2002), suspended delivery of the "Molalla River Reporter" and stopped communication with the "Educational Ambassadors" (September, 2002) I have tried to provide information regarding education concerns for interested persons:

Chair Janette Palmer called the meeting of the Molalla River School District Board of Education to order
at 7:05 p.m. and established that a quorum was present.

Budget Discussion
Due to the crisis in Salem and the lack of funding for education, Chair Palmer stated that the District should start making some plans to deal with the potential shortfall.

Dave Peterson, Business Manager, provided the Board with several scenarios regarding funding and the potential decrease in funding the district might face.

A survey conducted last spring, with the community and staff. 287 out of the 317 returned wanted to cut days, not programs or staff.

Board members agreed that they are prepared to cut a minimum of nine days from the school calendar, and in a worst-case scenario, up to 18 days. The district would save approximately $90,000 per day in salaries. They will make an official statement to this effect at their September 12 meeting.

Dr. Ericksen will contact Bruce Smith, OEA UniServ Consultant for the licensed staff and schedule a meeting following the September 19 election to discuss the potential cutting of days.

Adjourn
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
