Since the Board of Education will no longer be providing video-taping for cablecast (effective July, 2002), suspended delivery of the "Molalla River Reporter" and stopped communication with the "Educational Ambassadors" (September, 2002) I have tried to provide information regarding education concerns for interested persons:

Roles & Responsibilities

Following are OSBA's recommended roles and responsibilities for all involved parties when
using the OSBA executive search process:

Board of Education

Select OSBA to conduct the executive search process

Adopt the executive search process calendar and estimated budgets

Announce how in-district candidates will be treated

Adopt new executive qualifications based on staff and community input

Keep media, staff and community informed about the status of the process

Determine screening process and appoint committee members, if appropriate

Establish executive contract parameters

Determine which candidates to Interview, based on screening recommendations

Interview candidates and determine finalists

Conduct reference checks on finalists

Conduct visits to finalists' home districts

Decide on process for finalists' second interviews

Arrange second interviews with candidates

Conduct second interview process for finalists

Select "first choice" candidate and other acceptable choices

Approve new executive's contract

Announce selection of new executive and sign contract

Establish expectations, goals and evaluation process with new executive

Current Executive

Administer the district until departure

Provide district information for vacancy brochure

Prepare district information for review by candidates

Answer questions from candidates, if asked

Advisory Committees

Provide input to board in establishing new executive qualifications

Provide input in screening and interview process as determined by the board

OSBA Consultant

Assist the board in determining the executive search process calendar and estimated budget

Facilitate staff and community input for new executive qualifications

Prepare qualifications and brochure for board approval

Advertise the position nationally

Recruit potential candidates

Receive applications

Serve as contact person for candidates

Prepare and train board for its role and responsibilities

Instruct screening committee on screening process

Compile results of screening and make recommendations to board

Arrange interview times with candidates

Facilitate the development of the board/executive expectations, goal setting and
evaluation process

Local Coordinator

Provide district and community information for vacancy brochure

Arrange staff and community input meeting logistics

Arrange screening committee meeting logistics

Provide security of candidate files during screening process

Arrange interview logistics

Arrange logistics of visits to finalists' home districts

Arrange second interview logistics

District Staff

Provide input to board in establishing new executive qualifications

Provide input in screening and interview process as determined by the board

Legal Counsel

Assist board in developing parameters for new executive contract

With board representative, negotiate new executive contract using board parameters

Provide consultation regarding public meetings and records requirements
